A Wi-Fi Connected Vacuuming Robot This Futuristic looking vacuum looks great and the promise of easy home cleaning while we are out working why would every home have one or two of them scurrying around. We have all seen the films set on a futuristic spaceship with these things running around in the background. Well, now they’re here!
This is a quote from IRobot’s Team
“An early pioneer in robotics, iRobot was founded in 1990 with the vision of making practical robots a reality. Today, we design and build innovative home robots, including the Roomba Vacuuming Robot and the Braava family of mopping robots. But our technology isn’t just about robots. It’s about you – and finding better ways to help you get more done.”

One of the difficulties that I always imagined with these round shaped vacuum cleaners was how the heck do they get into the corners and around furniture especially close to the legs, well the answer is they fit the vacuums with an Edge-Sweeping brush and vacuum suction which literally pulls rubbish out of the corners and under the machine to be sucked into the vacuum itself.
The iRobot Roomba 690 vac itself is powered by a Lithium-ion battery which should last up to 60 minutes or until it’s completed its cleanup rounds, depending also on how hard it is having to work. Looking at the kind of experiences people have had there appears to be some who say that this model can go over rugs with no problems while others say that there could be some difficulties, as it all depends upon the type of rugs, the height and whether there are any fringes etc.
The wifi connectivity seems to be a great idea with many people singing its praises because it can be used to operate it and to control the many features that can be programmed into it. If someone doesn’t have the right phone to be able to take advantage of the wifi can still use the 690 because it only takes the push of the button on the top of the machine to power it up, but it does mean that you would not be able to use many of the app-controlled features. But one of the biggest draws for this machine is the wifi connectivity and the fact that is can work with Alexa and other similar devices.
Many have said that people say that the iRobot Roomba 690 is a good machine for regular cleaning but every month or so a good deep clean with an upright vacuum machine is still required to pick up what the iRobot leaves behind in places like the sides of a room and the corners. This begs the question of why anyone would want two vacuum cleaners when they could just have one.
There is no doubt that people love these robotic vacuum cleaners and they are a great time-saving device for people leading busy lives. However much depends upon the kind of property being cleaned together with the type of flooring that is laid. But there is no doubting that this model is well liked and has a feedback rating of 4 out of 5 stars on Amazons Website where customers who have purchased this model Roomba 690 have left their comments by reporting upon their own experiences. So our advice is to consider your property together with your layout and floor coverings, then check out Amazon’s Feedback profile of the model you are interested in to discover if you think that this model would suit your own situation and pocket, after all, this model is currently selling for around $299.99. But if you didn’t need the wifi and the connection to things like Alexa and similar gadgets then save a little cash and consider something like the ECOVACS DEEBOT N79 Robotic Vacuum and save yourself around $1oo or more.
However, this robotic vacuum cleaner can hardly be considered the be all and end all as far as household floor cleaners go, they cannot do stairs or even climb them, they cannot do the drapes and they certainly can’t polish any hardwood flooring you may have, so I do wonder if they are an expensive luxury for people who live on one level and have mainly hard floor areas to clean. The answer to the question Are They The Future? Well, the manufacturers seem to think so, yet I feel that the majority of us will continue to use the more traditional options but I’m sure we will only know the answer to that question sometime in the future.
